Outline the arguments put forth by philosophers/intellectuals and explain how these ideas related to religion, social justice, political institutions, and gender relations. How did the language of the Enlightenment connect to revolutions in America and France? How did the notion of popular sovereignty directly challenge established institutions like absolutist France? Explain how the rhetoric of liberty extended to some individuals in revolutionary America and France, but not to others.
Explanation / Answer
The enlightenment was an intellectual and philosophical movement which began in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. This enlightenment concept bought a change from theory to practice in many fields like education, politics and in household administration. This enlightenment quickly started to spread from country to country. NICOLAUS COPERNICUS (polish astronomer) was the first major contributor to the enlightenment.
The enlightenment influenced the Europe in many ways because before the enlightenment most nations in the Europe were monarchies. and the second thing is religion catholic churches owned land and great weatlh and had total power. Back then during that time JOHN LOCKE believed that people have basic natural rights: Life, liberty and property. In this way the enlightenment influenced intellectual landscape of the west.
The enlightenment thinkers were the ones who helped to spread the ideas using proper reasons and helped to make the entire world less religious and stressed about the importance of INDIVIDUAL. Basically philosophers believed they could apply scientific methods and used reason to explain about human nature logically.
In my opinion enlightenment thinkers heavily influenced the thinkers of that area and the American revolution is what really influenced the French because of the English colonies in America. The biggest influence on the French is that American example but still the enlightenment's role in influencing French revolution is debatable among historians. If we observe at the end enlightenment continued bro influence those are in charge who looked for inspiration. And yeah I do agree that enlightenment thinkers believed that science and reason can easily improve people's lives.
