Explanation / Answer

15. Researchers often fail to recognise the silly faults in their research papers because of the continuous focus they exert on that topic. In this regard, the peer-review process helps the researchers to rectify these mistakes with the critical review by the other experts from the same field.  This article focuses on lessons learnt from the recent Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that struck on 26 December 2004, and its implications on disaster preparedness plans. Peer reviewers might have helped in sharpening the conclusions drawn from the study by making the author eliminate the speculative assertions and forcing them to be more and more empirical. Also, the reviewers might have helped in making the content more and more specific and relevant rather than general.

16. The primary audience for this article would be the policymakers as they clearly suggest what are all the lessons to be learned from the past mistakes in disaster preparedness plans. The authors have emphasized the cyclical interrelations between environments and disasters and thereby try to make a case for a thorough disaster preparedness plans that are scientifically sound. The other audience would be the academicians and the general public who wish to understand what are the improvements needed in the current disaster management programmes.

17. The intended audience highly impacts the content. The author always tries to prove his point or make a case for something which he intends would reach the audience. Since the primary audience here is the policymakers, the researchers have focused on outlining the policy related loopholes and improvements needed for better disaster management. If the audience were, say, engineers then the study would rather have reported the flaws in infrastructure that made the population vulnerable.
