Background information: In a functioning democracy it is necessary that the processes behind political decisions and choices are reviewed, valued and discussed. Via media we get citizens access to and an insight into what may have affected the decision-making process. Mass media thus has three main tasks in a democracy: Review the political decision-making process, be a forum for open debate and convey news. Our rights to be able to say what we think and think are protected from the Constitution. The rights and opportunities we take for granted, other people in countries such as Ethiopia, Venezuela and Belarus can fight for. First describe what opportunities the new technology (social media, blogs, communication via the network) means to contribute to social development and social relationships as an individual.
Discussion on how the new technology changed the possibilities of examining the society's rulers.
From an analytical standpoint, what source-critical challenges do we face when more and more community debate and more information is communicated through social media or blogs instead of the traditional media (newspaper, TV). Does students learn to criticize sources in high school and does it work when we are going to criticize news from social media or a blog, or are the students and the next generations lacking in the critical view of where the source came from. Explain your conclusions please.
