Explanation / Answer
The given figure is showing gas-oil saturation system. the vertical axis represents relative permeability. The shape of the curves indicate oil is in wetting phase and gas is in non-wetting phase. The microscopic point of view of relative fluid flow at the following points :
a) i. When Sl = Sor + Swc, the oil exists in a discontinuousor pendular state and the gas is in a funicular or continuous state.
ii. When Sor+ Swc < Sl < Sgcl , both the gas and oil exists in a continuous state because the two relative permeability curves are intersecting at this region.
iii.At Sl= Sgcl position, oil becomes continuous and the gas exists in a discontinuous state shown by the relative permeability curve Kor.
b) An oil zone is discovered with a free gas saturation equal to zero. At the original conditions, any free gas is in the reservoir is abobe the oil zone. Free gas begins to liberate from the oil when the pressure drops. Thus, Sg is increasing in the oil zone with decreasing pressure below the buuble point. Sgcl is the equilibrium gas saturation when first permeability to gas is attained. At the critical gas saturation Sgcl ormed continuous phase is formed when gas flows within the porous medium.
