As a continuing education adult and USAF Veteran, I chose the field of Information Technology to address the need for professional women who can harness technology to advance and protect business goals. Women have always been under represented in the IT field and I am very pleased to take part in improving these statistics. I have over three decades of work experience combined with a educational background in Electronics Engineering and Computer Networks Engineering.

This letter serves as a formal means of appeal of my graduate studies academic disqualification. This letter also serves as a request to register for the fall 2011 semester. Therefore, there were legitimate reasons for my poor performance.

First, I would like to state that I am a MS Cyber Security major and I am competent in the area of networks security. In saying that, I will be changing my major to MS Telecommunications and Networks because it involves network configurations, active directories, and security policies. These are fields which I am passionate about, and I also have prior work experience in these fields. I was not successful in the CS5303 Data Structures and Algorithms online course because scripting logic is my weakest area of knowledge. Although, I have had numerous computer language classes in which I have been successful. I have sought out tutoring assistance from the PTC which was helpful, even though I would have had better results with an on campus class. This would have allowed me to interact more effectively with the professor and the class.

I have, to date, earned 15 credits and would like to resume my studies upon completion of the required course work for the MS Telecomm & Networks program. I am confident my academic performance will improve once I change my major, and I will maintain the necessary GPA requirements. In addition to changing my major, I will also look for extra resources and help from the professors, TAs, online, and campus study groups.

I have also sought the advice of both departments’ chairmen and one of my instructors. As an indication of my readiness for academic success, I have included letters of recommendation written on my behalf of which will testify to my competence (see attachments).

Sir, I know that if I can once again be given the opportunity to pursue my studies at NYU-Poly that I can and will rise to this challenge and maintain a sufficient GPA. Readmission into this institution is not simply an opportunity I seek, verily, it is my supreme focus.
