This is a graded discussion: 100 points possible Week 4 Discussion Question Background Information due Sep 26 Science and religion do not always have agreements about subjects like the creation of man. In many ways the individual becomes the primary unit within the social system and structure. This may seem opposite of what we are taught but the social theory behind individualism is quite simple. Since each human is unique their actions are unique and therefore each social activity they partake in is ultimately comprised on individual acts. In essence, what we see in the arts is that "the pendulum has swung into the realm of feeling, with no limits implied" and the artistic expression is more personal than theory based. Just of the Age of Reason, or Enlightenment, begin to witness the divorce of religious faith and logic, the Romantic Age would start to question religious faith with logical reasoning. In fact, the monk seems to be asking "How do I known God exists? How, in the face of this empty vastness, do I come to a belief? Can I even believe?" Discussion Questions: . Has this conflict changed over the years? Did government or the courts play a role in the controversy? If so, how? . What types of economic and social changes might have initiated the rise of nationalism and the importance of government during this time?Explanation / Answer
The concept of religion has greatly evolved during the years since past. If seen from the decades old view, the beliefs and practices were formed or developed keeping in mind various scientific reasons. But applying these in the modern world is fund to be very insignificant. Hence, this concept of religious faith and belief is though followed but due to the estatic feelings of the person and not due to the application of the scientific grounds they were based on.
Yes, the government and courts did take part in the controversy between man and religion. There have been various conflicts arising between the practices followed by people in the name of religion like the sacrifices, rituals etc which were in some way against the law. Ex: the psuedo monks who enlist a number of practices to be followed by the people for better progress, are all acts against humiliation jn the eyes of law. And now that people are educated and aware they raise their voices against such acts and government and courts are bound to give jurisdictions for it.
The economic impacts of such acts are adverse. Can be seen as :
1. Poor standard of living of people
2. Lack of education and well being
3. Fake employments which do not cause any contribution towards GDP or national incomes
4. Unskilled population increase.
It is the government which can intervene in such matters and pass on policoes or laws against such practices which are misleading the citizens.
