Question
t recent assessment from International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 2103) states that during the next 20 years (2016-2036; see Fig. 1-10 of ARS-WGI), the average surface temperatures over h wintertime Northern the other hand, the tropics are expected to warm the least, 1 C or less. If the IPCC temperature projections materialize, it follows that weather features of the global circulation during northern hemisphere winter would change too. Answer the last two questions based on the IPCC projections. Hemisphere are expected to warm by 3°C, which is more than any other region of the world. On 2) What changes in the intensity (Gie. average speed) of the polar jet stream (increase or decrease) would you expect if the polar troposphere warms 2'C more than the tropics? Explain your answer using concepts of module 2. Material in chapter 6 of the textbook should prove most useful.Explanation / Answer
I have no idea about the material given in chapter 6 or about whats there in module 2. So pardon me if I dont get to mention that.
2) The polar jet streams come from the west and blow towards the east. If the polar troposphere warms 2 degree more than the tropics, then the temperature gradient decreases. As we all know that the speed of the jet streams decrease with the decrease in the temperature gradient, here also, its average speed decreases.
