o Sprint 4:54 PM OSH 413 Exam 1.docx Open with Print 1. (Short Answer Rubric) What are the three basic categories of hazard control methods? Please give these categories in order of preference. (10 pts) 2. (Comparative Question Rubric) In Industrial Hygiene, what is the difference between a gas and a vapor? (10 pts) What is a TLV? Who publishes 3. (Short Answer Rubric) the TLVs? (10 pts) 4. (Short Answer Rubric) Where do you find OSHA PELs? Please be specific and complete, e.g., "PELs are found in OSHA standards," or "PELs are found in 29 CFR 1910 Subpart Z," would receive no credit. (10 pts) 5. (Computational Problem Rubric) The volume flow rate of an air sampling pump was found to be 2.14 lpm. Ifa given sample (filter cassette) were placed on the pump at 11:43 am and removed a : pm, what was the total volume of air drawn through the sample? (15 pts) 6. (Computational Problem Rubric What would be the volume of 45 mg formaldehyde (molecular weight 30.1) at standard temperature and pressure? (15 pts) 7. (Computational Problem Rubric) If the laboratory reported that 0.0023 g of contaminant was found on a sample filter, and you calculated that the volume of air pulled through the sample was 356 1, what was the concentration of contaminant (in mg/m in the workroom air? (15 pts) 8. (Computational Problem Rubric You determined that the volume of a vapor contaminant in a sample was 25 ml. If the volume of air sampled had been 2501, what was the concentration (in ppm)? (15 pts)

Explanation / Answer

4.Most of the OSHA PEL's are  contained in the Z-Tables of 29 CFR 1910.

5. Volumetric flow rate = 2.14 liter per minutes.

Time of exposure = 11:43 a. to 1:11 pm i.e 17+60+11 = 88 minutes

So total volume of air = 88 minutes * 2.14 liters per minutes = 184.8 liters

Please ask the rest of the questions in separate questionnaire.
