Greenhouse Gases Qustion for Environmental Energy Analysis Class:
Table 8.7I GWP and GTP with and without indusion of dimate carbon feedbacks (cc fb) in response to emissions of the indicated non-CO, gases (dimate-carbon feedbacks in response to thereference gas CO2 are always induded). These values do not include CO, from methane oxidation. Values for fossil methane are higher by 1 and 2 for the 20 and 100 year metrics, respectively (Table 8.A.1). The table above is from Chapter 8 of the most recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change https://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report/ar5/wg1/WG1AR5 Chapter08FINAL.pdf 1. If 1 kg of CO2, 0.5 kg of CH4 and 0.3 kg of N2O are all released together at the same time, what is the total CO2e released, using the above AR5 (Assessment Report 5) potentials as follows: Using the 100-year time horizon global warming potentials without climate-carbon feedback? a. b. Using the 100-year time horizon global temperature potentials with climate-carbon feedback'? c. Using the 20-year time horizon global warming potentials with climate carbon feedback'?Explanation / Answer
a) As shown in the table the GWP100 without CC feedback of CH4 = 28 and NO2= 265
Therefore, total CO2eq is = 1 kg +(0.5*28) + (0.3*265) = 94.5 Kgs
b) Similarly, GTP100 with CC feedback of CH4 = 11 and NO2= 297
Therefore, total CO2eq is = 1 kg +(0.5*28) + (0.3*265) = 95.6 Kgs
c) Also, GWP20 with CC feedback of CH4 = 86 and NO2= 268
Therefore, total CO2eq is = 1 kg +(0.5*28) + (0.3*265) = 124.4 Kgs
