According to the link above from the short article- Discuss the prices of and demands for bottled water and gas. Why were the prices of bottled water relatively high? What caused it? Why had gasoline prices stayed relatively low while demand for gasoline had grown? What caused the increase in the demand for gasoline, the lower prices, the culture or the combination of both? Use the demand and supply model you learned in chapter 2. You must relate your discussions to movements along a curve and shifts of a curve.

Explanation / Answer

The prices of bottled water was high because :-

1) extreme increase in its demand as consumer preferred to drink water instead of soft drinks which was a result of concern towards health.

2) increased in the prices of bottled water as consumer didn't preferred tap water because of concern for safety.

Gasoline.

Gasoline evaporates at a very high rate which contributes to the smog hence, government tries to ad substance in the blend so as to reduce its rate of evaporation. Usually the additive is butane which is very cheaper in price, leading to lowering the price of gasoline. Lowered prices of gasoline shifts the demand curve towards right.
