Given, dry unit weight ( Y d) = 21kN/m3

Bulk unit weight ( Y b) = 19.5kN/ m3

Now, Y d = Y b / (1+ w)

=> 21= 19.5/ (1+w)

=> w= 0.072

Y b = w/ v

Where v= volume of soil from the borrow pit

So, v= 0.072/ 19.5 = 0.0036 m3

The plastic index of soil is given by

Liquidity index = ( soil moisture content - plastic limit) ÷ plasticity index

Liquidity index = 1.5

plastic limit= 55%= 0.55

plasticity index = 25

putting these values in the above equation we get,

soil moisture content= ( 25× 1.5)+ 0.55 = 38.05
