Question

For this topic, you will do the topics from the attached list and construct two one-page concept sketches. Remember that a concept sketch consists of a sketch (or series of sketches), labels, and complete sentences written around the sketch describing the important processes or parts of the sketch. For this topic, select a life topic from the attached list and construct a concept sketch. Remember that a concept sketch consists of a sketch (or series of sketches), labels, and complete sentences written around the sketch describing the important processes or parts of the sketch. Attached list: Early amphibians: when they appeared, what types of creatures they were, the environments in which they lived, and how they are represented in the fossil record.

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER- Early paleontologists determined that the animal had strong forelimbs capable of supporting its body on land and moving forward and back to provide locomotion. The absence of certain muscle attachment points on the shoulder also indicated that the amphibian had no gills. Judging by the shoulder size, the scientists estimated that animal was probably three feet long, presumably including some kind of tail.

The fossils were recovered in 365-million-year-old sandstone and mudstone sediments in north-central Pennsylvania near the village of Hyner, west of Williamsport. The way the continents were configured then, this area was just south of the Equator, a marshy coastal plain of streams flowing toward an inland sea about 100 miles to the west. What is now the eastern part of North America was more or less joined to Greenland, the British Isles, Scandinavia and northern Europe.

The most complete skeletal material of an early amphibian tetrapod is the Ichthyostega, found in Greenland and dated 362 million years old. The earliest amphibian fossils are poorly preserved 370-million-year-old limb bones from Scotland. Other remains have been identified in Latvia, Russia, Australia and Brazil.

Acoordingly geological time scale the early amphiabian started appearing in devonian period.
