Question

Term papers on practically every subject imaginable are available on the Internet. Many of those who submit the papers as their own work defend their practice in Various ways: (1) These papers are posted to assist in research in the same way any other resource is posted on the Web and should simply be cited if used; (2) these papers are posted in order to encourage faculty to modify paper topics and/or exams and not to simply bring back assignments that have been used countless times in the past, (3) they don’t have time to complete a paper and since they have paid for the course they have in effect paid for the degree, and (4) if the professor doesn’t “catch” them what harm has been done?

Are you persuaded?

Write a 2-3 page, APA style paper addressing the above issues while answering the following:

Is there anything unethical about this service in general?

If so, who should be held accountable, the poster, the ultimate user (student), the professor, the university, or someone else?

Use the ethical decision making model process to determine the ethics of the term paper service.

Explanation / Answer

Decision making is given utmost importance as it is really important for the success of an individual/ organization. It tells us about the effectiveness and efficiency in making the correct decision for future. But there is always ethical dilemma faced by people while making decisions.

Few decisions in life may be ethically correct but not effective and others may be effective but not ethically correct. This further gets strengthened by the different types of bias an individual perceives. Like “ Confirmation Bias “ is a bias where the decision maker seeks out references and information that is available to support their understanding .

So coming to the Question, term papers are freely available on Internet and students can freely access them. And the reasons provided by the ones using those term papers are the above-mentioned points in the question.

I am not persuaded by the reasons provided for the unethical use of the term paper. Term paper is a student's intellect presented in a form of lengthy essay on a specific subject drawn from the work done during a school/college years.

So, it should be purely based on the students/ persons intellect about his/r understanding of the subject and any reason whatsoever so not be considered. Referring something on net is perfectly okay but submitting the same as their own resource is incorrect.

This is absolutely unethical if someone uses other person term paper. And the accountable person should not be the poster. Internet is a place where people want to be recognized and so do they post stuff. They also help others to get the reference.

The professor is not even in the scene. He has just asked for the term paper on any particular subject.

The only and the ultimate person that should be held for this unethical thing is the Student who uses it to make it his own work and submit it.
