Explanation / Answer

Rites of passage refer to those ancinent or traditional ceremonies that mark a new begaining or transition in the life of a people such as the birth of a child, marriage ,puberty ,death etc.different cultures have different rites of passage whcih are celebrated or is practiced to mark different occasion in their life.though each civilization has its own way of celebration different rites marking diffrent purpose like 'fattening room 'in nigerian culture and 'sebou' ceremony that are celebrated in egypt to mark the arrival of a new child in the world.but we still can find various commonalities in diffrent 'rites of passage' .

most of the rites of passage that are celebrated around the world in different culture are linked to their ancient old tradition and way of life ,like Sebou in Egypt which is said to be as old as the ancient Egyptian civilization and is still prevalent in Egypt and are celebrated by almost all people of different religion in Egypt ,despite onslaught by modernization and westernization people still love to stick to their traditional roots . as we have seen in the above article how westernization has influenced the traditional society in celebrating their ancient old practices.

Second important commonality among the 'rites of passage' among different culture is that every rituals have some opposite view what is called today as liberal and modern view .for example in the egyptiam culture the celebration of Sibou is marked with various rituals in which making loud noises are part of the celebration which are considered as auspicious and making the infant brave and healthy where as the modern view is that an infant should not be exposed to loud noises as it may harm their brain and may cause hearing problem, likewise we have seen that in the in the Nigerian tradition of 'Fattening room' in which women are supposed to eat and gain fat as in their culture womens who are round, chhuby and fatty are considerd as the symbol of beauty which is exactly opposite the modern view of skiny and slim figure which are more common in modern women as it is considered as a symbol of health and beauty.

Various rites of passage which are celebrated today in different cultures are slowly disintegrating due to the effect of modernity and education but one thing what is most common among all of them is that people want to preserve their ancient old customs which they have carried from their forefathers
