Question

The National Institutes of Health reported that College students consumed an average of 186 restaurant College students is 52. A sample of 225 students at Albany State University produced a sample mean of (a) Test the hypothesis that the average restaurant meals consumed per student at Albany State significance, etc.) and manual (hand and calculator) calculations in 4 decimal places, where meals per student in 2016. Assume that the population standard deviation of restaurant meals consumed by 192 restaurant meals per student in 2016 University differed from the average restaurant meals that NIH repbrted for College students. Clearly show your hypothesis testing steps (state your null and alternative hypotheses, indicate your level of possible (b) What is the consequence of making Type I or Type Il error in this case? A, á *.all Pn

Explanation / Answer

a) We will check for the null hypothresis.

H0: meals = 186

against

Ha: Time 186.

We will calculate the z-value =( X(bar)-µ)/std. deviation

t = (192-186)/52 =0.115. The z- calculated is very small so we reject the null hypothesis at 5% level of significance.

b) The type 1 error is rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true and type2 error is accepting the null when it is false.
