Question
Race and ethnic relations between the United State and Brazil are quite simliar. Both had overwhelmed the native people to colonize their country. Brazil had imported Black Africans as slaves, just like the United States did. As Brazil's developing nation continues industrializing there is a continuing concern on the treatment of its native people. Race relations in Brazil are influenced by the legacy of slavery. Depending more on slavery than the United States, Brazil had imported about four million slaves. This is eight times more than the United States. But at the height of slavery both the United States and Brazil had the same slave population at about four to four and a half million. The term race is rare in Brazil, more common is the term cor or color. Historian Carl Degler (1971) had identified the Mulatto escape hatch as the difference in Brazilian and American race relations. There were the mulatto or moreno (brown) and the brancos (whites) in Brazil. Where in the United States the mulattos were of the class of blacks. The Mulatto escape hatch was an illusion though. The molattoes had fared better than the Black Brazilians of Afro Brazilians and Afro descendants. This term was used to refer to the dark end of the Brazilian color gradient. Commonly used by the college educated and activists in Brazil. The Blacks with the highest levels of education and occupation faced the most discrimination. This was in terms of jobs, mobility, and income. The color gradient played a very big part in Brazilian society.

Explanation / Answer
This is a fact in history which has happened and though I can see the highest form of racism here in the form of color gradient. The point which i don't disagree is the racism. There was a competition between US and Brazil to buy slaves. Just to abscond from the consequences of racism the classification of molattoes was formed and called as like. This discriminated the blacks a lot.
