The Obama administration has withdrawn its application to start moving spent nuclear reactor fuel rods to the Yucca Mountain Repository. The rods are currently be stored on site at nuclear power plants throughout the nation.

Explanation / Answer
As today,we utilize the nuclear power plant for the generation of power and supply it to the living societies. these power plants are very much essential for our life to support but also it should also be considered some precaution if the plant is works on nuclear methodolgy. it is good to generate the power through this but it need high carefullness and attentive. the efficiency of this plants are great but it should be handle carefully.
Now for the case of disposed off the waste of nuclear power plant then it is very important to handle the waste carefully too. because if it exposed in atmosphere, it will gradually become a massive problems for us. now the question arises that what should we do with this nuclear wastes then i would like to suggest that first it should be handle carefully and then it should be disposed in either in deep ocean in a closed insulated container or put it under the earth crust to a very great depth.
No, Yucca Mountain should not be a waste central depositery. it is because to the fact that if we do this then we making this mountain region contaminated and as a result it will gradually destroy the life of there and then the surrounding to cause a great damage to human society and the whole environment. it should not be done in sake for the protection of environment and for human life. there are many other choices are there which we can adopt to deposite more safely.
It can be possible to store the waste in the power plant but it is possible for only a certain limit. morever if we trying to store this in the plant then it will be a very dangeous step to decide. it is because in such case there will be always a risk and the danger of accident to take place. if this happen the power supply will stop and hence destroy the plant ,region environment and life in a second . it will be seem like blast of nuclear bombs. so it should not be store in the power plants and rather it should be disposed as far as possible from the human and other living societies.
Yes, there is also a great risk of accident during the transportation of such wastes. it is because that if there any thing get failure during the process of transportation than any great destruction can take place as accident and create a lot of huge destruction in a while. so they are mostly acceptable after the observation and analysis take places.
Nuclear tools and weapons are the one of the most power ful tool for the terrorist in the modern time. as they try to destroy the world and thats why if they get this then they can do it more easily. if this happens then this world would not be a place to live for human. there will be just destruction and all. so it should not be happen that this kind of weapon reach to the hand of terrorist and they will then not able to destroy the world in a while.
