removed Briefly explain in 350 words why the founders of the U.S. Constitution endorsed both freedom and slavery and the economic motivation for the Civil War. Explain positions for and against the removal of the confederate statue, the Battle of Liberty in New Orleans. Take a position in the debate about whether it should have been removed. (cite in APA or ASA no quotations) The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal and did not deal with the question of slavery. Almost half of the men attending the 1787 Constitutional Convention owned slaves, including George Washington (Golash, Boza, Chapter 1). Golash Boza identifies the economic reasons as to why both slavery and freedom could co-exist and why slavery precipitated the Civil War. Historic ideas about White supremacy over other races are viewed as fading but we face a society in which the Alt-Right, hate groups and hate crime persist. One issue is that, for Southerners, the confederate flag represents regional cultural heritage An anti-racist view posted on debate.org is that: "The confederate flag is a hate symbol for at least some as well as a source of Southern pride The Confederate flag wasa hate symbol of the Civil War era. It's meaning has not changed since then. The Confederacy left the Union to preserve the labor force of the enslaved African Americans.
