Question
1. This chapter introduces the idea that the species on our planet are all connected, sometimes in ways that are not obvious. From your studies in other fields, give three examples of how organisms are linked or in some way depend on one another other
2.Calculate your ecological footprint. Feel free to use one of the websites suggested at the Website for this textbook.
3. The mission statement of the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society, is “To advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people.” Explain how the final eight words of this statement connect to the definition of sustainability used in this chapter.
Explanation / Answer
Solution-1)
Yes, it is true that all the living creatures on the planet earth are interconnected with each other either directly or indirectly. there are many factors which are responsible for the connection between the different species on this planet. you can take the following example to understand this fact-
case 1) every single living creatures from micro organism to macro organism are interconnected with each other in order to develope an ecological balance between them. this maintaining the life process and ecocyle.
case 2) every creature depends directly or indirectly on each other for food. like insect=>frog=>snack=>eagle. thses all animals forming a food chain and depends on each other for getting the food and thus transfer of energy take places from oe level to another.
case 3) like we are human who depend on plants as well as animals for our food. these food source may a from a species of aquatic ecosystem or from the terresterial species, but the fact is that we are also a part of ecosystem and we also get linked with it.

Solution-2)
The term ecological footprint means that the different species which are living on this planet earth are how much land are using. we can take it as a case of human habitation and its impact on other species of this planet. i giving this situation for just to understand the calculation of present and past ecological footprint.
At initial level of ecosystem, there were less population of species or we can take it for every species that they were very less in number. but by the passage of time reproduction rate rapidly increases and this cause the habitation problems as well as shortage of ecological footprint. human consuming this a lot and rest species have a shrinkage ecological footprint. this will very much effecting our ecosystem and disturbing the balance of ecosystem. means while the situation is arise in such level that it become a serious environmental consequences till date.

Solution-3)
Here the scientist want to express the situation of environment in terms of developement and advancement of science and technology. although we know that the learning process is infinity means that there is a lot of knowledge which we gain in whole life but the process not get end. but we have made a lot of effort to improve our society by gaining knowledge about life process and other fields as much as possible. this gained knowledge is so impressive that we are utilizing it to nurishing the natural resources and improve them by the help of our gained knowledge. the field may be earth science or chemistry but the fact is that we utilizing our innovation to conserve the resources and planet earth more efficiently. we can understand it by taking the example of modern health facility and techical field which we deal to make our life as well as our planet more sustainable.
