Cobalt ion complexes 1. Color of the solution h 2. Color after ading water iole 3. Color after h 4. Color after cooling Pol 5. Explain step 2 in terms of equation (IV) and LeChatlier's Principle Based on steps 3 and 4, would you say that the reaction is endothermic or exothermic? ExplainExplanation / Answer
In both the cases, its endothermic reaction.
In case of ferric complex, colour changes from red to red orange and then finally to orange. Orange colour has more energy than red. while heating, its takes the energy and proceeds the reaction in forward direction and follow Le- Chatlier's principle. Because in case of exothermic, increasing temperature will not proceed reaction in forward direction but remains constant and maintain equilibrium.
In case of cobalt ion complex, here also heating gives violet colour and cooling gives purple colour, violet has more energy than purple. so, it takes the energy on high temperature and proceeds the reaction.
