2- What does "unifromatarianism" mean in geology?

Explanation / Answer

Question 1: Significance of earth's lithosphere in terms of plate tectonic theory?

Answer: Earth is made up of several layers namely Crust, mantle and core(outer core and inner core). LITHOSPHERE is together the crust and upper mantle. The lithosphere is broken into giant plates which lay underneath and fit around the globe in the form of puzzle pieces. The lithosphere range extends from the top surface of the earth to a depth of 100km. The lithospheric plates are in continuous motion and known as plate tectonics. This movement is responsible for earthquakes and volcanic activites seen on earth's surface. The earth's lithosphere is broken into some Large and some smaller plates, these plates move realtive to each other and they interact with their boundaries (plate boundaries) and these interactions are responsible for earth's sesemic and volcanic activites.

Question 2. UNIFROMATARIANISM in geology?

Answer: UNIFROMATARIANISM is defined as a belief which states geologic process that occur in present day are similar to those events which occurred in the past. WILLIAM WHEWELL and JAMES HUTTON are the two persons who are considered as the founders of unifromatarianism.

The best example for unifromatarianism is RAIN. Because the process of rain is happening since many years and will also happen forever. Similarly the process like precipitation and volcanic activites are also the best examples which happened in the past and also will happen forever clearly explains the theory of unifromatarianism in geology.
