Question
PLEASE ANSWER CORRECTLY AND I WILL RATE YOU WELL. DO NOT GIVE ME A WRONG ANSWER . I WILL REPORT YOU TO CHEGG.
1. Make a prediction: how many photo quadrats should you take in order to estimate the alpha diversity (number of species) on an underwater rock wall?
A)Take photo quadrats that sample the whole area of the rock.
B) Take photo quadrats until the first photo showing no new species. (A "new" species here is one that was not in a previous quadrat.)
C) Take only a few photo quadrats. Then multiply the number of species found in that small area by the full area of the rock.
D) Take photo quadrats until the first photo showing no new species. (A "new" species here is one that was not in a previous quadrat.)
Explanation / Answer
Answer requires more data in order to provide accurate answer, though I will try to answer it.
A) If selected rock wall has a smaller area and high species variability.
Also, the purpose of study.
This method is tough and time consuming, but will provide precise and accurate data.
C) This method can be used if the selected area is small. But the result won’t be accurate as the former.
Number of quadrants required for high precision will depend upon the spatial variability of the species, ie, whole area will provide most accurate data.
And photos should be taken at equi-distant points on a straight line, rather than random photos.
B & D Least preferred.
