Question

Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bone density becomes low. Healthy bones in young adults have a bone density of 1.0 g/cm3. Identify the incorrect statement. Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bone density becomes low. Healthy bones in young adults have a bone density of 1.0 . Identify the incorrect statement. Low density bones absorb less x-ray than high density bones. Patients with osteoporosis are more susceptible to fractures. Compression of the vertebrae can be caused by osteoporosis. Exercise decreases osteoporosis. A bone density of 1.5 g/cm3 is caused by osteoporosis.

Explanation / Answer

Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bone density becomes low. Healthy bones in young adults have a bone density of 1.0 g/cm3. The incorrect statement here is :

Low density bones absorb less x-ray than high density bones.

Studies have proved if one's bone density is lower than normal it can be increased in various manners . Certain activites like exercise and lifting weights can improve the bone density. Intake of calcium and vitamin D supplements also improve bone density. There are various ways in which one can measure bone density which are Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), Peripheral dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (P-DXA) and Dual photon absorptiometry (DPA).

Here DXA is the most accurate form in which bone desity can be measured . This uses two different beams of X ray to measure the density of bones in Spine and Hip.During this process results have shown that less X- ray beam is allowed past bones which are Strong and dense. In other words High density bones absorb less x-ray than low density bones.
