Polyesters are more easily hydrolysed than polyamides. The lone pair of electrons over N in polyamides resonates with the adjacent carbonyl carbon and reduces the electrophilicity of the carbon. Therefore, the carbonyl group in polyamides is less reactive.
The ester O atom in esters can also resonate with the C=O group, but O is more electronegative than N and hence will have a higher tendency to retain the non-bonding electron pair while N, being less electronegative, can easily share the non-bonding pair. Therefore, esters are more reactive to hydrolysis.
