Question

The Bronze age is the referring to the period of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern history when bronze was the preferred metal for making weapons, tools and other metal objects, as the alloy was harder than either of the components. Ancient bronze was an alloy (actually a collection of alloy) prepared by blending molten copper and tin together, different alloys results from slightly different compositions. If a bronze is made from 85.0 % copper and 15.0 % tin, what is the ratio of copper to tin atoms in the alloy?

Explanation / Answer

Let us take 1mol of Bronze. So we will have 0.85 mols of Copper and 0.15 mols of Tin.

1 mol = 6.022*1123 atoms

So Ratio of number of atoms of Copper to Tin = (0.85*6.022*1023)/(0.15*6.022*1023) = 5.67
