Question
1- Did the presence of Malonic acid have an effect on the result? Why do you thonk might be the case? Use data to justify answer.
2- Did you find the temperature influenced the result? Why do you think might be the case?
3-What did you observe when you bubbled air through the mixtures in which there was initial color change?what accounts for this observation?
4- Why is it important that the mineeal oil form a layer on top of the glucose/ yeast/ methylene blue in mixture part C?
5-The absence of oxygen will cause the citric acid cycle stop functioning. Yet oxygen is not a reactant in the citric acid cycle. Explain this apparent contradiction.

Ans 1 . The presence of malonic acid do have an effect on the result . It inhibits the reaction and helps in the process of fermentation and as we can see from the data that there are three layers formed which is a result of aerobic respiration which occurs because of aerobic reaction of malonic acid with yeast and glucose.
Ans2.When the mixture is placed on ice water bath , the enzyme yeast is resting . As we know the effect of temperature in cell respiration mainly depends on the effect of enzyme activity. So when temperature increases the enzyme in yeast works better . Therefore the mixture in 35-450C temperature will react faster as the enzymes in yeast needs warmer temperature for the reaction.
Ans3.When we bubbled air through the mixture in which there was initial colour change we will observe blue colour because before the addition of oxygen the hydrogen molecules are removed from glucose by the enzymes and methylene blue which acts as hydrogen acceptor but by the introduction of oxygen in the mixture we will reoxidises methylene blue which results in the formation of blue colour.
Ans 4.It is important that the oil forms a layer on top of glucose/yeast/ methylene blue because it prevents the oxygen from the air to come in contact with it because methylene itself acts as hydrogen acceptor if oxygen from air will come in contact with it it may hampers the aerobic reaction as oxygen is the final hydrogen acceptor .
Ans 5 . Oxygen is not a reactant in the citric acid cycle because in citric acid cycle oxygen acts as the final hydrogen acceptor which forms a pathway through which electrons are trasferred from one gateway to another through electron transport chain which is called oxidative phosphorylation.
