11. Answer c.The oceans are salty because rain when falls on the ground interacts with the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to form carbonic acid. This acidic rain erodes the the rocks on the land and produced ions and this dissolved chemical weathering ions from the land are carried by river and stream eventually into the ocean water. Some of these dissolved ions are used by organisms and are removed by water whereas some of the ions remain are not used up for a long period of time and remain in the ocean. The two of the most abundant ions that is responsible for saltiness of the ocean are sodium and chloride ions.

12. c.Hydrological process is the endless cycle in which water continously is circulated from the oceans to the atmosphere, ground water through the process of evaporation, condensation, precipitation and runoff. First the water evaporates from the ocean and land and then this water condenses to form clouds and which fall as rain to the ocean and land. Some of the water infiltrates though the soil into the ground water and thus most of the ground water is produced by this process.
