Explanation / Answer
1. DEBATE TITLE:
GESTALT THERAPY VERSUS PERSON CENTERED PERSPECTIVE:
Hello I would like to introduce you two highly talented and skillful experts in their particular branch of psychology and they agreed to participate in this debate.
2. I am the moderator in this debate and will be asking questions to each gentlemen about their respective fields.
Let me introduce you Mr. Daniel who is a expert in the gestalt therapy and also Mr. Adam who is a psychologist from person centered perspective. Now each of these two gentlemen would introduce themselves to people in the debate. Now coming to questions, scenario 1.
3.Question: A college graduate student is finding difficult to get a proper job for him to look after his parents and pay bills. This is causing stress in him and he is depressed all the time.
Mr Daniel: I would ask the student about his grades and his university, and the minimum package he is expecting to join and things?
Mr Adam: I disagree with Daniel because the way he is seeing the problem is quite simple and this is not an easy situation because the student in this case is depressed and I would like to answer the student that before getting depressed and tensed talk to your family about the issues and join any temporary job till date and once you find an opportunity you can go to your core job.
Question scenario 2. A teenage guy who is a love failure is ruining his life thinking if the past happened and not able to come out of those memories. Gentlemen your reaction would be?
Mr Daniel: since the gestalt therapy is an approach to the mind, body and culture. I would like to tell the patient that he should be able to come out of this situation and come into a better environment.
Mr Adam: I would talk to the patient like his college friend and don't allow him to go stressed like this and I can apply my therapy and ask him the recent few situations which he spent with her( only if he is comfortable to share his personal information). I would try to be positive that negative
4. Now by this debate, the conclusion of the two gentlemen would be:
Mr Daniel: I would caution that this person instead of trying to know the entire problem of patients, he is asking just the basic information and treating them with some without any plan.
Mr Adam: Mr. Daniel has his own views and opinions, I would like to mention that being strict with patients would even worsen the situation. The major thing is that the patient shouldn't feel we are judging him.
