Question
please help with the first sheet. the second one is the experimental report data sheet, just in case any info is needed from there to answer the questions. thanx!!
CHEM 182: Experiment #2 l. Determine the accepted molecular weight of benzoic acid from its formula, C6H5COOH. aooo be as CR. ben acia may nts accepted moe een or er s 122 1213 Halmoe. 2. Calculate the percent error between the experimental and accepted values. 3. If in part II (Benzoic Acid TBA) some of the solvent vaporized during the timed measurement, will this loss of TBA result in the freezing point of the solution being recorded as too high, too low, or unaffected? Explain! 4. When interpreting the data, you determine that the freezing points of the (Benzoic Acid/TBA) solutions are higher than expected. As a result of this "misreading of the data" will the reported molar mass of the solute be too high, too low, or unaffected? Explain! 23Explanation / Answer
Ans 3
Freezing point of solution depends on the number of particles of the solute but no the nature
of solute, if the solvent is vaporized then relative ratio of solute to solvent increases and that
leads to more number of solute particles compared to that of solvent.definitely there is an
increase in the delta Tf value and the recorded value is too high.
Ans 4
depression in F.P = Kf*m ; where m = molality of the solution
Now, molality = mass of the solute/(mass of solvent in kg*molar mass of the solute)
Clearly, if F.P is reported higher, depression in F.P is lower than expected
Thus, molar mass is reported higher than original value.
