Pad 12:04 PM 50% When you are facing a hard problem, it is often advantageous to SIMPLIFY it enough to "get started". Once you solve the simple one you go back and add complexity until you are confident in what you are doing. We will do the same thing for our satellite. The figure (see the image) shows a round satellite with two blue solar collectors (drawn as thin lines). Look at the collector on the right, the angle theta shows the location of the collector. When the collector is deployed (when it is flying on orbit), the angle theta should be 0. Point P is a pin about which the collector rotates. When it is launched, the collectors are both pulled in close to the satellite (both theta and beta are 90 degrees). There is a spring and a damper (google it) on the collector that exerts a torque on the collectors. The figure gives an equation for the torque. Note that when angle is positive the torque is negative therefore when the angle is zero the torque is zero and the collector should stay straight out. Plot the angle theta versus time. B) Plot the angular velocity versus time. C) Plot the magnitude of the pin force versus time. D) What is the maximum pin force? E) List the complexities that will arise if you really needed to do these calculations while the satellite is orbiting in a circular geosynchronous orbit. Consider also the fact that the satellite could be "tumbling". Upload a numbered list of things that are different from the analysis you did My professor posted this video showing solution to a similar problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v lU8qCeHtCJI Sum forces Sum moments unknowns. 6, solve for Use motoa to Solve for mathe e, Hon as

Explanation / Answer

A)The graph between angle theta and time is plotted by taking the angle along x axis and time along the y axis. From morning to afternoon,as the time increases the angle theta also increases in order to face the sunlight. From afternoon to night the angle decreases as the sun sets. This graph gives an appearence like an inverted hyperbola.

B)The angular velocity versus time graph is plotted with velocity w along x axis and time along the y axis. The angular velocity is nothing but the moving speed of the satellite and increases as the time increases. Thus velocity and speed are directly proportional.

C)The magnitude of pin forcevversus time is plotted by taking pin force along x axis and time along y axis. The force applied increases during increase in time period and these two are also directly related.

D)The maximum force is the speed with which the satellite moves. It will be equal to the sum of force exerted by the stellite and its individual parts.

E)When all these factors are to be calculated in real time it is really very difficult because the satellite keeps orbiting continuously and is not constant with respect to the time. When the force is found to be maximum at one place,it may vary at other end due to the absence of gravity at vaccuum. When the satellite is tumbling, the speed or the force may not be constant.
