Question

1-Propanol has the^1 H NMR spectrum shown below. Map each hydrogen atom in the molecule of 1-propanol with its corresponding peak number. Draw the molecule on the canvas by choosing buttons from the Tools (for bonds and charges), Atoms, and Templates toolbars. Identify the appropriate hydrogen atoms by selecting each atom and assigning it a map number (1, 2, etc.) until all hydrogen atoms are mapped. To do this, right-click on an atom and choose Atom Properties. (Mac users: Use an equivalent for right-clicking.) Then, clear the check mark to enable the Map field before entering a value.

Explanation / Answer

1-propanol is shown in NMR sepctrum. CH3(a)-CH2(b)-CH2(c)-OH(d). For understanding I have given a,b,c,d for carbons.

In your nmr spectrum number 1 belongs to carbon c ( delta value 3.5 to 3.6 quartet)

Number 2 belongs to oxygen d (delta value 3.3 triplet)

Number 3 belongs to carbon b (delta value 1.5 to 1.6 ppm as hexet)

Number 4 belongs to carbon a (delta value 0.9 to 1.0 ppm as triplet)
