"Saving the bay" the title of an article that appeared in Daily Press, our local paper, a couple of years ago. Another article titled "What's Killing the Chesapeake Bay?" appeared the in Washington Post also a few years ago. Both of these articles were referring to the many years of pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. Considering that the Chesapeake Bay watershed covers a wide geographical area (from New York to Virginia), provide a detailed discussion of the nature (source) of the Bay pollution problem. Include in your discussion "point source" and "non-point source" pollution.Explanation / Answer
the main issues which are responisible for the pollution of Chesapeake Bay are-
1.)Agriculture-As we all know that we use fertilizers and pesticides for the good growth of crop and when we use theses by soil erosion these chemicals enters into the bay and polluting the watershed of this Bay.
2.)Air Pollution-air pollution is the one of the cause of this pollution by the harmful gases released by the vehicles like cars,trucks and etc.the gases released by these can fall back to earth where it could wind up in our water ways. nitrogen and chemical contaminations are two pollutions that harm both air and water.
3.)Blue Crabs-blue crabs are vulnerable to pollution,habitate loss and harvest pressure,and their abundance has fluctuated over time but thes gives a great recreation.
4.)Climate Change-this also plays an important role in changing water temperature and other effects like costal line flooding and shore line erosion.
the above mentioned are the main to pollute the chesapeake bay.
POINT SOURCE AND NONPOINT SOURCE
Chesapeake bay and its tributaries are contaminated by industrial and municipal point source and agricultural nonpoint source of pollution.the objective of this study was to compare the porewater characteristics of two chesapeake bay tributaries:Wicomico River is contaminated by point source and Pocomoke River cantaminated by bothe point source and nonpoint source of pollutions.this was proved by taking the samples from both yhe rivers and they has been tested accordingly.The sediment pour water were analysed for toxically using microtox marine luminescent bacteria-vibrio fischeri.aAnd this toxically decreased the both upstream and down stream from the most polluted site in both the rivers.These are the causes of pollution in Chesapeake Bay.
