Question
If someone can just show me how to calculate one of them, I will follow those steps to calulate the rest.
Calculate percent yield:
OIL
Mass of Oil (g)
Base (3.0 M)
Mass of FAS (Soap) (g)
% Yield of Soap
Palm
2.001
NaOH
1.622
1.904
KOH
1.681
2.012
Na2CO3
1.002
1.992
K2CO3
1.134
The average molar mass for Sodium fatty acid salt is: 291.7 g/mol. The average molar mass for Potassium fatty acid salt is: 307.8.
EDIT: We used 3 mL of base per trial.

Explanation / Answer
Mass of oil = 2.001 g
average mass of sodium fatty acid salt = 291.7 g/mol
So mass of glyceride (palm oil) = 3(291.7 - 39) + 89.094 = 847.2 g
Thta is 3 moles of fatty acid part and 1 mole of glycerol
moles of palm oil = 2.001/847.2 = 0.0024 mol
Theoretical yield of sodium salt of fatty acid = 0.0024 x 3 x 291.7 = 2.07 g
Percent (%) yield of soap = 1.622 x 100/2.07 = 78.36%
