As the given compound is closely relate to structure of enzyme acetoacetate decarboxylase. This catalyzes the reaction of formation of acetoacetate by forming acetone and carbon dioxide. It helps in synthesis and utilization of ketone as acetoacetate reduced to acetone or subsequent acetoacetate reduced to subsequent ketone by using NADH in the reaction.
This compound can interact with Lys 115 and act as inhibitor in the reaction mechanism. This is inhibited by acetic anhydride. Acetic anhydride acts on electrophillic attact on the catalytic site Lys 115 of acetoacetate decarboxylase and inactivate the enzyme. Due to this inactivation, hydrolysis of synthecis substrate 2,4 dinitrophenyl propionate to dinitro phenol by acetoacetate decarboxylase. In the presence of acetic anhydride this enzyme is inactivated and do not process hydrolysis.
