B. The following questions are from today's experiment: EQUL 397: pH, Acids, and Bases. Use the table to answer your questions: 0.1 M solution Methyl orange Methyl violet Phenolphthalein Thymolphthalein NaNO, ??? violet yellow light pink violet yellow red blue Is a 0.1 M solution of KOH is acidic or basic? what experimental e answer? 1, evidence supports your 2. List the solution that is acidic among the two. 3. What experimental evidence supports your above answer? The identification labels fell off test tubes, each containing a colorless solution. A student knew that one of them is 0.1 M HCI, another is 0.1 M NaOH and the third is indicator phenolphthalein solution. They are labeled as A, B, and C. He performed the following tests and listed his observations. Determine which label should be attached to each test tube. 4. Mixture Observations (1) 1 Drop "A+1 Drop "B (2) Solution from (1)+ 1 Drop "C (3) Solution from (2)+ 1 Drop B Clear, no change Solution turns red Solution becomes clearExplanation / Answer
Solution:1).
Concept:
Thymolphthalein-It is an acid–base (pH) indicator. Its transition range is around pH 9.3–10.5. Below this pH, it is colorless; above, it is blue.
Phenolphthalein-Phenolphthalein is often used as an indicator in acid–base titrations.it turns colorless in acidic solutions and pink in basic solutions.
So from above concept we can say that 0.1M KOH is Basic in nature.Because Thymolphthalein is giving blue color
and Phenolphthalein is giving red.
Solution 2).
None of the above given solution is acidic.
Solution 3).
Following experimental evidence supports my answer.
