What is the molecular weight, density, mass, and mole required to give 5 mL of methanol? C. What is the molecular weight and mass required to give 0.007 mole of salicylic acid?Explanation / Answer
Answer b-
Molecular weight of methanol(CH4O) = 12+4+16= 32 g/mol
Density of pure methanol =792 kg/lit. ( at rt)
Thuse 1 liter methanol weighs =792kg
5ml=0.005lit =3.96 gm methanol
Now by defination ,
Mole= weight÷ molecular weight
3.96÷32 = 0.124 mole/5 ml of methanol
Answer. C
Molecular weight of salicylic acid (C6H4(OH)COOH)
= (12×6) +4+17+12+(16×2)+1
= 138 g/mol
Now see , 1mole of salicylic acid =138 g
0.007 mole contained in 138×0.007 = 0.966 gm of salicylic acid.
Thuse when 0.966 g of salicylic acid dissolved in 1 lit solvent will give 0.007 molar solution
