Question
2. If the reversible reactions in the experiment introduction were started with only solid potassiunm hydrogen tartrate, which reaction would proceed faster, the "forward" or "reverse"? If the reversible reactions in the experiment introduction were started with only the separated ions present, which would proceed faster? 3. If the reactions were at equilibrium and a large amount of K ion was added, which reaction would proceed faster? As a result, what would happen to the amount of HC4H406 (aq) in solution?Explanation / Answer
QUES 2) If the reaction started with only solid potassiumm hydrogen tartarate then the rate of forward direction will proceed faster because of le chatliers principle. If there was only seperated ion in the reaction mixture then the rate of reverse direction will be greater than that of forward direction in order to achieve the equilibrium (le chatliers principle) QUES 3) If large amount of K+ ion will be added then reaction will proceed faster in the direction in which the amount of k+ ion decreases which is the reverse direction .hence the rate of reverse direction will be greater than that of forward direction. As a result of above mentioned process the amount of hydrogen tartarate will decrease as the reaction is going faster in reverse direction.
