Titration Procedure Read through the procedure outlined below. Also, for visual effect, you can check out the website www.youtube.com/watch?v q8jdCWC10vQ. This video is approximately 1 minute in length. If for some reason you cannot access this website, you should be able to find other videos to view by doing a Goggle search (www.goggle.ca) or searching on YouTube (www.youtube.com). 1. Record the name and the concentration of the standard solution. 2. Put about 10 mL of the standard into the closed burette, and tilt it on its side, rotating it so that all sides are rinsed. Then drain the rinse solution through the valve (stop cock). At this point you should check to make sure that the valve is working properly. 3. Slide the burette to its lowest position, or remove it from the retort stand. Fill the burette with the standard solution. Using the funnel will be helpful. Drain some solution through the valve to remove any bubbles in the burette tip. Record the initial volume of the standard in the burette.Explanation / Answer
It is a acid-base volumetric analysis
Aim: To find the strength of acid using standardized base of known Molarity.
Requirements: Burette, Erlenmeyer flask, pipette, dropper, Burette stand.
Procedure: 1. Wash the apparatus properly with deionised water and dry.
2. Rinse the burette with base (0.15M NaOH in this case) and titration flask with given acid solution.
3. Fill the burette with NaOH upto 0 mark and check for the presence of air bubble. Remove some of the titrant through valve to remove air bubble, if any.
4. Note the initial reading of the burette.
5. Pipette out 10 ml of given acid solution into erlenmeyer flask.
6. Add 2-3 drops of phenolphthalein indicator into the flask.
7. Start adding base solution from the burette into the flask, dropwise with stirring continuously, till the appearence of permanent light pink colour. This is the end point of neutralisation.
8. Note the final burette reading.
9. Repeat the procedure to get a set of three concordant readings.
Observation table:
Concordant Volume: 15.2 ml
Precautions: 1. After completion rinse the apparatus with water atleast 3 times.
2. Do not use soap for washing.
3. Takeconcordant readings i.e. 0.10 ml of close proximity with each other.
