Question
sucrose: hydrolyzed by sucrase CHgOH + HO sucrase ?? ?? CH-OH OH ?? ?? ?? sucrose (a disaccharide of glucose and fructose) B-D-fructose (hemiacetal) a-D-glucose (bemiacetal) What you will observe if you were to perform the Fehling's test or l2 test on sucrose that had been treated with sucrase? What will be the best test for sucrase activity in a patient sample? (Remember, the patient sample came from an infant's bowel biopsy so you do not want to waste the sample.) What will be observed if the patient has sucrose intolerance? If they do not have sucrose intolerance?Explanation / Answer
Solution 1 :
- When we perform Fehlings test or Iodine test on sucrose that has been treated by sucrase it will show positive test since glucose and fructose both will give positive test for both.
- Best test for sucrase activity in patients sample will be pH test
Solution 2 :
-Sucrose intolerance, also called sucrase-isomaltase deficiency will lead to less breakdown of sucrose which in turn will give negative test for frhling and iodine tests.
-If it doesnot have sucrose intolerance than the breakdown into glucose and fructose is 100% and it will result in positive test of I2 and fehling
