Explanation / Answer

Answer 1: On looking up the sustainability and corporate responsibilities taken up by Cocacola, the world's largest producer of beverages, it has been stated in their report that they put in a lot of effort in posing a positive impact both socially and on the environment. Taking a few examples: The Cocacola Company sources 100% of its Coffee and Tea plus 50% of its lemons and beet sugars from sustainable sources, the CO2 that is embedded into our drinks is reduced by 13% thereby ensuring climatic protection, 60% of their bottles and cans are recycled and refilled, 221 billion litres of water is replenished through water shed projects thus reducing our carbon footprint, work is in process to reduce the level of sugar in their beverages thereby lifting human health conditions, they have indulged in waste prevention that extends beyond reducing packaging material to optimizing packaging efficiency; increasing renewable material use; recovering packages for reuse; and increasing recycled material use etc.

Very importantly, Cocacola states that they aim to reduce their carbon footprint by 25% by the year 2020.

Answer 2: Just like how the American Chemical Society aims to use broader chemical enterprises for the benefit of the earth and its people, the sustainability report of the company chosen is also sings to the same tunes. A major step towards reducing our carbon footprint, recycling metals, plastic and other materials used for packaging across industries, treating 'used' water by reverse osmosis and pumping it back into the system for usage are some of the most essential steps taken towards building a more sustainable planet. Working towards achieving superior health conditions for us humans is also an essential component of sustainability.

Answer 3: Ecological footprint can be calculated by finding the sum of the global hectares needed to support the resource consumption and waste generation of the person/institution/company etc.
