Question
5 a The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon. It occurs as a result of the way the Earth's atmosphere interacts with radiation from and to space. i Explain why certain gases, such as CO2 and CH4, are able to absorb infrared radiation but other gases, such as N2 and O2, are not. ii Explain how the greenhouse effect warms the Earth. ii Explain why human activity may be increasing the effecet of the natural greenhouse effect and state one consequence of this. Explain how both of the following statements can be true. I Carbon dioxide is the most important greenhouse gas. II Methane is a much more important greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Explain what is meant by 'global dimming. b cExplanation / Answer
1)CO2 and methane are polyatomic gases and these gases have more heat capacity than other gases like N2 and 02.
They gain more heat in withstand more period of time in atmosphere after sometime they radiate the heat to atmosphere .
2)by the above reason they have more capacity to hold the heat very high.so atmosphere have more warm than earlier.
3)the usage of petroleum product more in combustion ingine will increase the green house gases more.
B) methane much more important why because it more reactive and combustion one where as carbon dioxide is more stable product.
