Place the following compounds in order of decreasing strength of interrmolecular forces: H2O, O2 NCh. CaCh 3. Place the following substances in order of increasing vapor pressure at a given temperature: HO, Xe, Naci 4. Which of the following substances would you predict to have the highest ,? A) CH,CI B) F2 5. How much energy is required to vaporize 48.7g of CH,Clh at its boiling point, ifits AHvap is 31.6 kJ/mol?Explanation / Answer
Ans 1 :
The order of the boiling point of the compouds mentioned here are :
H2 < Ar < NH3 < CH2Cl2 < KBr
Potassium Bromide has the highest boiling point in all the compounds here as it is an ionic compound , so an enormous amount of energy is required to break the inter and intra molecular ionic forces and vaporise its components.
The lowest boiling point is that of argon , because they have weak vander waal forces between their atoms , which can be broken by the slightest amount of energy.
