Consider the following short strand of mRNA: 5AUG AAA.CAU GUG3. The anticodon of the tRNA in the P site is GUA a. What is the anticodon sequence of the tRNA in the E site? (1pt) b. Is the codon in the E site charged or uncharged? (1pt) c. What is the anticodon sequence of the tRNA in the A site? (1pt) 4. Which molecule in the LAC operon is under allosteric regulation? (1pt) 5. Glucose levels are low in a cell. How will this affect the level of CAMP? (1pt) 6. A CAMP-CAP complex is bound to the promoter of the LAC operon. How will this affect RNA polymerase? (1pt)Explanation / Answer
1) A freshly made RNA trancript is not ready to go and it is called pre-mRNA and it has to go through some processing to become mature RNA . These include :
- Addition of cap to the transcript - A 5' cap is added to the beginning of the RNA transcript
- Addition of tail to the trancript - A 3'poly-A tail is added to the end of the RAN transcript
- Splicing - In splicing , some sections of the RNA trancript (introns) are removed and remaining sections (exons) are stuck back together.
