My theory is that the product is starting material becouse they never reacted. My profesor wants me to prove why is starting material, like come up with a theory. Please help. reaction is

BrO3- + 5 Br- + 6 H+ ..........> 3 Br2 + 3 H2O

This reaction occurs in acidic medium.

But you have only  NaBr-KBrO3.

so In absence of H+, Br2 is not produced.

trans stilbene react with this reagent when Br2 gas produced from reagent mixture.

Hence  product is starting material because they never reacted.
