. Sprint ? 2:10 PM A mybc.bluefield.edu Atom in TPP: N C S (in thiazolium ring) (1 pt) Atom in Pyruvate HCC(o)c(o)o Name: Biochem Quiz 10: Pyruvate dehydrogenase, 0-oxidation . What are the two useful products that are released from pyruvate dehydrogenase? (1 pt each) 2. How many different types of catalytic subunits exist in mammalian PDH that directly contact some portion of pyruvate? (1 pt) s. How many different enzymes are involved in the I- oxidation spiral? (1 pt) . What substrate enters the 0-oxidation spiral and is consumed to produce many acetyl coenzyme A's? (1 pt) Bonus: Circle ONLY the two atoms that are bonded together catalyzed by E in PDH Atom in TPP: N C S (in thiazolium ring) (1 pt) Atom in Pyruvate: HCC(O)C(O)oExplanation / Answer
1)
The mitochondria is an organelle & power house of the cell. The oxidation of pyruvate occurs in the mitochondria of the cell.
a. A carboxyl gp is removed from pyruvate , releasing a molecule of CO2 into the surrounding medium.
b. During the break down of pyruvate , electrons are transferred to NAD+ to produce NADH , which will be used by the cell to produce ATP.
c. In the final step, an acetyl gp is transferred to Coenzyme A to produce acetyl CoA. It is a molecule that conveys the carbon atoms from pyruvate to the citric acid cycle to be oxidised for energy production.
