Question

Liquid X is known to have a lower viscosity and lower surface tension than Liquid Y Use these facts to predict the result of each experiment in the table below, if you can experiment predicted outcome will be greater than Vy Ox will be less than Vy 480. g samples of Liquid X and Liquid Y are weighed out, and the volumes Vx and V,7 of the samples are measured x will be equal to V O It's impossible to predict whether Vy or V, will be greater without more information O X will form a layer on top of Y O Y will form a layer on top of X O The liquids will form a homogeneous mixture 20.0 mL of Liquid X and 20.0 mL of Liquid Y are mixed together in a small beaker, and let stand for 30 minutes It's impossible to predict whether the liquids will mix without more information.

Explanation / Answer

Experimentally it has been found that viscocity has relation with density but high density liquids are found to have high surface tension. So based on surface tension Vx will be less than Vy.

About mixing its impossible to tell with just viscocity and surface tension, whether they will be miscible or not.

Comment if any doubt.
