Check all that apply. Particles of a gas are in rapid, constant motion and move in straight lines The particles of a gas are tiny compared with the distances between them Because the particles of a gas are so far apart, there is very little attraction between them Particles of a gas collide with one another Energy is conserved in these collisions, energy lost by one particle is gained by the other Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the gas particles The pressure and volumo of a gas are inversely related Pressure is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the gas particles Submit X Incorrect: Try Again: 5 attempts remainingExplanation / Answer
i. The first postulate of the kinetic theory of gases was that, the particles of the gas move in a straight line until they collide with another particle or the walls of the container which explains the first point.
ii. The second point was that these particles are much smaller than the distance between particles. Most of the volume of a gas is therefore empty space.
iii. The third point was that there is no force of attraction between gas particles or between the particles and the walls of the container which explains the third point.
iv. Collisions between gas particles or collisions with the walls of the container are perfectly elastic. None of the energy of a gas particle is lost when it collides with another particle or with the walls of the container which is another way of saying the fourth point.
v. The fifth point was that the average kinetic energy of a collection of gas particles depends on the temperature of the gas and nothing else which is why the energy of gas depends only on the temperature. Hence fifth point is also true.
vi. The gas laws were given seperately and hence no mention was made about these things in the Kinetic Theory of gases.
vii. Nothing was said about the pressure so the seventh point is incorrect.
Since only five of these were correct, the first five are the answers.
