Question

In a qualitative analysis procedure, a chermnist separated Ba? from Sr2 by carefully adjusting the concentration of CrO . Suppose we have a solution containing 0.025 M Ba2 and 0.017 M S7 and slowly increase the CrO concentration. What will be the concentration of Ba2 remaining in solution when SrCrOs(s) just begins to precipitate? Number Ba- D 2+ What percent of the original Ba(aq) can be precipitated before SrCrOA(s) begins to preaipitate? Number D Previous o oveUps View soulion O Check Answer N Hint

Explanation / Answer

If Sr2+ starts getting precipitated then there must not be any Ba2+ left in the solution as the chemist is gradually increasing the concentation of CrO42- ions in the solution .. and we know that for BaCrO4the solubilty product is very low so that even a small quantity of the chromate ion can surpass it and form precipitate at low concentration as well.. therefore it precipitates first and after its precipitation is 100% completed , Sr2+ starts precipitating as it needs high concentration of CrO42- to surpass the solubility product and to form precipitate as SrCrO4.. therefore
