MASTER SQL EXP. 6 Electrical Conductivity of Aqueous Solutions LABORATORY REPORT PREPARATION GUIDE SUGGESTED QUESTIONS I. Introduction 2. What is in aqueous solutions that make them capable of conducting electricity? 3. What degree of dissociation and ionization of compounds in water has to do with the solution being a strong, weak or non-electrolyte? 4. What are strong, weak and non-electrolytes? 5. Why electrical conductance considered an evidence of a chemical reaction? products of a chemical reaction? 7. What were the objectives of this experiment? 8. How was conductvty tested in this experiment? 9. What procedural modifications were implemented in this experiment? 10. What safety precautions were observed in this experiment?Explanation / Answer
Ans 1 : The electrical conductivity of the aqueous solution is defined as its ability to conduct electricity.
It is based on the solute which is dissolved in the solvent to make the aqueous solution.
Ans 2 : The ions are present in aqueous solutions , which make them capable of conducting electricity.
Ans 3 : The degree of dissociation and ionisation affects majorly the electrical conductivity of the solution.
Higher the degree of dissociation higher is the conductivity and vice versa.
Ans 4 : Strong electrolytes are the ones that dissociate almost completely in aqueous solutions. The weak electrolytes are the ones that dissociate partially and non electrolytes are the ones that do not dissociate at all.
