The first ionisation energy increases from moving from left to right in a period. The reason being the fact that on moving across the period, the number of protons in the nuclei of each element increases. As a result, there is an increase in the nuclear charge. Consequently, the electrons in the valence shell will be more tightly held and will be difficult to remove.
